Quick Point’s Special Color Spot
December 9, 2014
I don’t know what to call this small area off the bay at Quick Point Nature Preserve. Maybe it’s just a tiny inlet or a miniature bayou. The water is never more than a foot deep here, and the ground underneath the water is a different color combination every time I see it. Sometimes it’s purple and orange, sometimes just brown. Sunday it was green and orange. The purple is from sulfur bacteria, I’m pretty sure. Don’t know what makes it so orange. I don’t think it’s iron bacteria, but I suppose it could be. The green could be algae.
