Lorain, Ohio 5

June 15, 2015

The National Tube Company is one of the entities folded into U.S. Steel, becoming the National Tube Division of that company. Susanne and I talked with someone now on the legal staff of U.S. Steel in the parking lot of this building. He told us that only “five or six” people have offices here now. Maybe the five window air-conditioners indicate their locations. . . . In trying to find out more about the National Tube Company I found some interesting websites related to the history of steel making in Lorain. See here and here for a first-person account of working there and here for some early photographs of the mills.

  1. I had an office on the top floor in the early 90’s; the left-most single dormer on the right half of the building. That building is loaded with history.

    • Thank you for writing, Larry, and telling me about your connection to this building. It’s nice for me to have another connection now, through you.
