Linda Grashoff's Photography Adventures

Around the Yard—3

I took the next few photographs in this series in late afternoon on October 25. I never take photos in late afternoon; I’m a morning photographer. But the light was calling me away from the computer and, let’s face it, I’m becoming nostalgic about our Ohio woods, which we’ll be leaving when we sell the house and move later this year.

  1. So it’s a move from Ohio to FL? What a change! But not too far to go back once in a while, because obviously you have a feeling for the woods (and rivers!) of Ohio. Gorgeous light!

    • Actually not, Lynn. In Ohio we’re moving from one abode to another, but we’ll still be in Florida in the winters. At least that’s the plan. I do love the woods and rivers of Ohio, but I’m falling for the woods and rivers of Florida, too. Guess I’m just a woods and rivers person. . . . I know that late afternoon is also a good time to take photographs, but usually I’m getting dinner ready about that time. Just stepping outside for a brief date with my camera is probably a good thing to do. Maybe that’s a new habit I can cultivate.

  2. Gorgeous light. Late afternoon is one of my favourite times of day, partly because I find it very difficult to rouse myself to get out early enough in the morning, and of course I’m not the one preparing supper! In my experience (very recent) an impending move causes one to re-evaluate one’s neighborhood and have a greater appreciation of it.

    • Yeah, maybe I’m missing a lot by only going out with the camera in the early morning. I knew you’d know about these feelings about moving, Andy.
