Singled out by the sun, this hybrid bromeliad is within the genus Guzmania, says biologist husband David. Selby specializes in bromeliads.

  1. The light and colors are fantastic, I could use your husband on my trips to the conservatory, too!

    • The colors would have been fantastic in almost any light, but when the sun came in like a spotlight, leaving the background dark, this plant achieved true star presence. Yeah, my husband is useful in conservatories, and great on nature walks. 🙂

  2. I agree with Ken – a strong image, and wouldn’t it be nice to have your hubby along to identify a few things? I’ll have a post soon from a conservatory that has a whole hours of bromeliads – I didn’t focus on them this time, but they are fascinating.

    • Hm. Looks like my comment on your comment didn’t take. I said something like this: Thanks. Yes, it’s very nice to have David with me on walks in nature or in conservatories. Looking forward to your conservatory photos.

  3. What a beautiful plant, and a superb capture, Linda. Sadly the Reader beheads it – I have decided that, for the time being, I’m going to limit myself to landscape mode images as this format suffers the least at the hands of the computer that cruelly crops our images for display in the Reader.

    • You are smart, Andy. (I am lazy.) Thanks for letting me know what happened in the reader with this image. You’re pretty much saying that any vertical I post will suffer equally. Wish WP would show thumbnails in the reader!!!

      • Thumbnails, though small, would be so much more preferable. Any vertical image gets the middle third sliceed out to make a landscape format image. No head or legs on anything!
