Bye-Bye, Oberlin

December 11, 2017

I had a little time November 28 before I had to leave on the first leg of my journey south for (most of) the winter. Walking the three or four minutes over to Rock Pond, I found some cattails hit by early morning light.

  1. I’ll miss your Oberlin shots but I’ll look forward to your Florida photos. Have a nice trip.

The play of the light brown tips against the darker stalks and light gray water makes for a very pleasing composition.

Re the resulting photos from your extended stay in Florida: Please be gentle with those of us who are stuck up north 🙂

    • Thank you, Alan. I love how the sun will light things selectively in early morning. I’m sure it does the same thing at dusk, but I’m almost never out and about at that time.

I will try to ease into the full-on Florida photos, so as not to disturb those of you up north too much. You’ll let me know if I overdo it. Today’s photo was a good start, right?

I noticed there’s a hint of warmth in the cracked pavement shot from Sarasota, but not enough to make me jealous. Besides, our asphalt up here in the north looks very similar. Thanks for being so understanding 🙂

        • I can’t promise you that I’ll always be so restrained, but tomorrow’s photo should pass muster, too.

  4. I love any kinds of grasses or cattails in the winter. Beautiful capture, Linda. 🙂

    • Thanks, Cathy. I kind of miss that limited winter palette. Much of it will hold on until I get back to Ohio in March, though, I think.

  5. The patterns are wonderful! I really disagree with Alan this time about Florida images – BRING. IT. ON! 🙂

    • Thanks, Lynn. I hope there will be a good (?) balance between non-Florida and yes, Florida images on this blog in the next couple of months. I don’t know, though: I’m finding it harder to make nature photographs (the local plant life is what says Florida to me) that are truly—or maybe even somewhat—original. We’ll see.
